Select-an-Effort: The Car

Select-an-Effort: The Car. Seana standing with a car.

Today we begin the third week of “Select-an-Effort: Organizing Tasks for 2023.” Will be you be doing something fun today? Perhaps heading out for an excursion or a meal? If so, you may very well be getting into your car. This is a spot that often gets heavy use, but little attention. Therefore, today is all about organizing your car.

Consider how much time you want to devote, and then pick one of the following choices:

Low Effort

Go through the interior of your car and throw out trash. Remember to check:

  • Floors
  • Compartments in the door
  • Seatback pockets
  • Area underneath car seats and armrests
  • Center console
  • Glove compartment

If you find items that should live inside your home, bring them inside and put them away.

Medium Effort

If you have a bit more time, after decluttering the inside of your car, go a bit further and clear out the trunk or rear storage area.

Once this has been done, what is left should be items that you want to have inside your car.

If you can, go ahead and vacuum the car and wipe down interior surfaces.

High Effort

If you want to make your vehicle really organized, now is the time to set up some systems for holding the things you want in your car. Since belongings in a car can become projectiles, it is wise to establish storage locations that hold items in place. There are a variety of products on the market to help make the most of the space you have.

This project is tremendously rewarding because it impacts a space that we use multiple times a day. Will you give it a try?
