Hello and welcome to a new day. Has it been a good one so far? Did you start off in a positive place or roll out on the wrong side of the bed?
Today we are continuing our conversation about small changes we can make in our lifestyle to help us “Make a Fresh Start” in 2021. Today we are talking specifically about how you start your day.
The environment we set when we wake and begin the day can play a big role in how our day unfolds. Do you tend to wake to a buzzing alarm? Maybe you wake up and immediately check your phone? Perhaps you start your day by flipping on the tv and catching the news? None of these are bad, but we might be able to do better.
One terrific option is to start your day with a favorite playlist. You simply put it on when you and/or your family wake up and let it play while you are showering, brushing your teeth, getting dressed, and otherwise launching your day. A repeated playlist becomes comforting in a very short period of time. In addition to being familiar, which steadies us, it also begins to operate as a subconscious timer. Our brains memorize the pattern of songs, and slowly match them with repeated tasks. For instance, by the time a certain song comes on, we know we should be finishing our first cup of coffee and starting to pack our bag.
Many of us get distracted and lose track of time in the morning, forgetting to pay attention to the clock. A playlist of our choosing immerses us in music we love, which both brightens our mood and subtly nudges us to stay focused and on time.
This tip works well for children and adults, so why not give it a try? What songs would you put on your morning playlist?

I love the idea of starting the day off with music. Seriously, what an upbeat way to start one’s day off and also help keep you on task, as well 🙂
It works really well for children too. Flood the home with music to give everyone a good start!
I had a wake-up song I used to sing to my son when he was little that made getting out of bed a little easier. What’s funny is he just started singing it again this past weekend. They really do remember the things we do as parents! 🙂
I had a wakeup song for my kids as well, and they still remember it!
I have had this open all day to comment! My first thought is the “Walking on Sunshine” song. Or “Wake Me Up” by Aviici. So many good ones! “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go”!

I have to think about this. There are many songs I like. We usually start with the news but that is really depressing now. Music seems much better. I’ll give it some thought.
I agree about the news. I started putting music on in the morning and it is just more pleasant… at least for those first moments when I’m waking up and brushing my teeth.
