Over time, stuff ends up in the bags we carry around, including backpacks, briefcases, purses, totes, and carryall bags. Whether you are a student, office professional, or Mom on the go, odds are you are constantly dropping things into your bag. Over time, this can result in a bit of a mess.
Fortunately, the solution is easy. Every quarter, empty the bag out completely. Just dump it on a table. Throw away the trash (broken pens, wrappers, unneeded paperwork, empty lip balm, old make-up, etc.). Next, remove whatever you don’t need to be hauling around and put it back where it belongs in your space. If the bag is dirty, shake it out over a trashcan to get rid of the accumulated “dust.”
Before you reload, take a minute to see if you can improve your system. For example, could you add a small, zippered bag to hold tiny items? Or, could you assign certain objects to particular pockets in your bag? Perhaps you could add a carabineer to hold your keys. Be intentional as you return items to your bag to make it as easy as possible to quickly find what you need.
When is the last time you cleaned out your bag?
