Top Ten “What Does This Go With?”

In the spirit of The Late Show with David Letterman, this week I’ve assembled a “Top Ten” list with an organizing slant. These are items that “go with” something, but it is often hard to identify exactly what that something is. Do any of these sound familiar? If so, I can assure you that you are not alone!

Do you have any of these unmatched items in your space?

  1. Sadly #5 with two kids I am sure we have or most definitely had when they were younger in the past along with puzzle pieces, as well. I think with little kids it is just a hazard that comes along with it.

    1. Puzzle pieces is a great one, Janine! I find those in almost every home with children. And what is worse when completing a puzzle to realize you are missing one or two pieces – the worst! Of course, I agree that this happens with a busy family household. Sometimes, you just have to laugh and move on!

  2. Number 4 resonates – our previous owners left more than cans of paint, though. We found a pan of biscuits in the oven! We decided those needed to “go with” the trash. 🙂

    1. You found a pan of biscuits in the oven? That is pretty, um…. interesting! My Mom talks about finding old sandwiches in the heating vent when we moved into our home many years ago. I assume some child stashed them there to avoid having to eat them. Totally needed to “go with” the trash LOL!

    1. I’m pretty sure that just about everyone has this drawer or box of cords. I see it in every house, including my own! I sure wish manufacturers would print, somewhere on the cord, the name of the gadget to which it connects!

  3. Great list! We have a key in our home that we do not know what it opens. It may be a neighbor’s key who has moved. Now that the kids have their own college portable lockboxes, I started using the label maker and adding a label to the known keys. But, I still do not know what to do with this one key. One day, I will just throw it away (without my husband knowing), of course. =)

    1. That is so funny, Sabrina. I really think many of us have old keys that we can’t match to a lock. I run across them all the time with clients. I also periodically encounter a lock that we can’t find a key for. I couldn’t agree more – everything needs a label!!

    1. I have had a few clients in particular who are famous for jotting down numbers but not what they are for. If we can’t come up with an answer in a reasonable time, out it goes, right? Isn’t it funny to read our own handwriting and not know what we were writing about?

  4. I have pretty much experienced most of the 10. When we moved last, we got here with an appliance and no chord. Maybe one of those “extra” chords in someone’s house would match my appliance! 🙂

    1. I’m sure the matching cord is out there somewhere! I find the cords in pretty much every house. With the pace of technological change, and need to constantly buy new devices, it is hard to keep track. What did you do with the appliance with no cord?

  5. hahaha, you’re hilarious! The Tupperware lids is really something. And those dang water bottles. And phone chargers! And today, we couldn’t tell which Spiderman lunchbox went with which Spiderman backpack because we have two of each! Hilarious start to the morning.

    1. Well, can’t really go wrong with mis-matched Spiderman, right? I find so many sports bottles and kid cups, all with various lids and caps and straws. They can make a mess of a drawer or cabinet in no time! Hope the “back to school” thing is going well up there:)
