No two people are exactly the same, but most of us share some fundamental storage needs. Regardless of your lifestyle, it is wise to set up these storage systems in your space today.

Do you have these five storage systems in your space? What else would you add to this list?

I actually have all of these storage container categories in my home. So, I feel like I am succeeding at something in life at least after reading this tonight 😉
Hooray – giving you a high five from lower CT for already having these in your space Janine!
What a fun infographic! When I first read the title, I thought you were going to share your favorite products or storage boxes. But now I see that you had something else in mind. I love the categories you described, and have boxes or systems for those categories. We put our change in a tzedakah (giving) jar. When it’s full, we roll the coins, deposit them into the bank, and then make a donation to a local charity.
Yes, not product specific but function specific. I think the change jar is a great way to use that wedding gift or travel souvenir that you haven’t quite figured out how use. LOVE the giving jar – just thinking of it makes me smile:)
The only one I don’t have is the firesafe box. I agree it’s a good idea but … I’m not quite sure what’s holding me back from that purchase. I do, though, have my important & vital documents in one place and organized so that if I had to grab them and go, I could. Good list!
You can get them at Staples if you want one. They are very heavy to carry, but do provide a bit of peace of mind… especially in this crazy year when you don’t know what you will wake up to each day!
I have all but the fireproof box. I have looked at them but never seem to make a decision. I should try again and make the move.
Great list! I would add Pet documents files. Since we board our dog a few times a year, having the current medical records that spell out the shots is essential if the kennel misplaced it or did not receive it. Thanks for sharing, Seana — definitely sharing on my Pinterest Organizing boards.

Totally agree, Sabrina. If you have a pet, they deserve a file. (Well, maybe not a goldfish, but I leave that up to the individual!)
You’ve made me realize that although my husband has a file for all his medical paperwork, I don’t! Mine wouldn’t be nearly as full but it would be helpful to have that information at my fingertips for sure.

Yes, I think everyone should have one. It’s just handy to pull it out for reference if for nothing else, and most people (especially as we age) end up with a few medical records that need a home.
AH what a great twist! You always think outside the box, haha. Sorry… I couldn’t help myself! 😉
I do have these 5 storage items and they are so necessary!
Love the info graphic too.
Fun to mix it up a bit, right Melanie?
OK–Four out of five isn’t bad! All I’m missing is the fire safe box. We have a safety deposit box–does that count? Speaking of counting. I once had a change dish that quickly turned into a jar. By the end of the year, I had enough money to put towards the cost of a bridesmaid dress for my friend’s wedding!
What a great story!! Those dresses are pricey, so how great was that? And yes, a safety deposit box definitely counts, so you are 5/5!
Check, check, check, check, doh! We don’t have the fire safe box. Our change jar keeps evolving. We have a really fun one from Michael’s crafts. We’ve been saving up for our annual Disney trip but I’m certain we’ll skip this year because of COVID and a new baby, so all the more savings!
Just keep filling that up for next year, right? I’ve been wondering about Disney. In one way, great time to be there because of fewer people, but then the rules and masks in the heat and all, not sure. The baby is definitely a reason to take a pass until next year!
I love this. Not what I expected when I saw the title. Your 5 storage containers are truly universal.
Yes, not a list of product endorsements but more of a list of functional solutions!
I am happy to say I have them all. The change jar never stays full so does that mean I should take it off the list? As soon as quarters reach midway, sticky fingers go to work.
Love the firesafe box. It’s where I keep all the important, hard to replace documents. I’ve even instructed my kids how to find what they might need there.
That is so great to mention that you’ve talked to your children about the box. Such an important step to keep everyone in the loop. My Mom modeled that for me, always telling me and my sister where everything was. Very wise!
I love this idea of keeping a box for each important document type and organizing use. This makes being organized much simpler!
When we have a place to put something, we are much more likely to put it away, right?
Sweet and simple, but so accurate. Sharing this.
Thanks for the sharing, Sheri!
