Today’s task is primarily for the digital aficionados. You know who you are: the ones who are constantly downloading documents, photos, memes and videos. Downloading is quick and easy, giving us instant access to what we want to see. Unfortunately, we rarely go back into the folder and clear out what we no longer want. Clearing out downloads may seem unnecessary, but a clogged downloads folder can zap a lot of space on your disk, as well as slow down your computer’s operating speed.
Once a week, take a peek inside this folder. Rename the downloads you want to keep using a naming convention, such as “year-month-day-subject.” Then, move these documents out of your downloads folder and into the appropriate location on your hard drive. Anything you don’t want can get dropped into the trash.
If you haven’t done this for a while, it may take a bit of time to clear it out. However, once you get into this weekly habit, it shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes a week.
Do you download a lot of files? When was the last time you cleared out this folder?

I literally do this weekly here now after having cleaned it up massively earlier last year. I had let it get out of control for a bit. But once I did clean it up, I realized how much it needed to be done and not just as a one-off, but continually. So, couldn’t agree more with you on this one 😉
Some of my younger followers encouraged me to add this one. It can feel like a huge task if you download a lot. Good for you having tackled this task earlier in the year!
Such a great reminder. I haven’t done this in much too long!

The visual rewards may not be as satisfying as working with physical objects, but it really is a great little habit to form!
omg – we’re in sync. I did that today! I can always tell how full my desktop computer is, but I do slack with my laptop. So I did this today! Super satisfying when it makes a noise when you empty the trash too, right?
I love that sound of the computer trashcan being emptied… it feels like freedom!
Oh My Goodness. I’m not sure I’ve ever done this. I’m kind of afraid to look for fear of what I’ll find. Thanks so much for this reminder.
Could be an interesting exercise, Jan! I’m cheering you on from over here:)
I find this particularly difficult but I do need to do it. Thanks for the reminder.
Maybe I can help you sometime! I’ll make a note on that:)
