Too funny! The other day when I was straightening our home up a bit, my younger daughter actually asked me who was coming over. Apparently cleaning up meant we were having company! ? Janine Huldie recently posted…Currently August 2018
Emily Evans and I have been enjoying partnering with this cartoon for a couple of years now. It’s always fun to find a fresh way to connect about our common organizing struggles:)
When my son was 2yo we had a speech therapist come to the house for weekly appointments. Because they played on the floor I would vacuum before every visit. Let me tell you, that year my house was never so clean. The pressure of any kind of company coming over really does get ya moving!
That is the profession that my younger daughter is pursuing. She’s been at NYU Langone this summer observing speech pathologists working with adults and children! I love this story – I totally would have done the same thing. I am always trying to clean spots off of the bathroom mirror before guests come!
Thanks, Diane. We have so much fun coming up with ideas and figuring out how to put them together. There are so many common struggles we share in the realms of organizing and productivity!
It works for me! I have a big event coming up in a month and I know I’ll be knocking out the cobwebs and putting away those items that I’ve left lying around:)
Ha this is funny and so true. I usually plan to have a party in s moment of weakness and then second guess myself. They always turn out great though. The last one I planned ended up raining all night so made a lovely circle in the living room. Kim recently posted…Awareness and Letting Go of the Clutter
We often have bad weather when we entertain. One time the power went out as trees fell all around, another time a tree fell on our garage just as people were arriving. Good times:) Still, having company does motivate me to take a fresh look at my space!
I AM CURRENTLY PLANNY TO VACUUM, CLEAN THE BATHROOM AND HANG OUT THE “GOOD TOWELS” AS WE ARE HAVING COMPAY FOR COCKTAILS BEFORE GOING OUT TO DINNER. IT DEFINITELY IS A MOTIVATOR!
It’s so true! It is a great motivator! Right before a party, my mom would rope me into cleaning out every room of the house. These days I prefer to clean/organize a little each week than do it that way though. Too much stress the other way.
I agree that it is less stressful to regularly put things in order. Sometimes, it is tempting to throw everything that is out into a bin or basket to “hide” it away. I always caution clients against this as it just creates a future project…
That’s true Melanie. We tend to focus only where our guests may wander. Hopefully nobody tiptoes upstairs during the party, right? I guess to motivate ourselves for those spaces we need out of town company:)
Very cute comic! It is true that throwing a party, or preparing for any visitors in your home will help motivate you to declutter, organize and clean your place. Nancy Haworth recently posted…8 Steps to Organizing Medications
I can too. Having people over definitely motivates me to take a fresh look at my space. I usually have a few things I tuck away when guests come. Sort of like how moving helps encourage people to get rid of things…
We throw a lot of parties here which is the perfect excuse to do a deep cleaning and organizing in the house. My husband and kids know all too well what’s in store for them when I announce that we will be hosting a party……

That is so funny that your daughter had that reaction – shows that this is a pretty common scenario:)
I had a similar experience when our kids were young. 😳
That is so funny!
What a great way to get the point across by using humour, I love it!

This is great! I love how you use Polly to illustrate different concepts.

I always say the best way to get orrganized is to having company come over! Love this!

I guess it works for all of us. Hope you have a wonderful time with your guests!

So true! However, I gave up a long time
ago getting the upstairs cleaned for just
dinner or party guests.

Working on Polly over the past couple of years has been a lot of fun. Seems like a lot of people resonate with this one:)
While I have never really done that, I can definitely relate to the sentiment.

There are certain routines that we all go through. I wait and clean the bathroom last minute:) It’s easier if everyone pitches in. Good for your kids!
