Accessories make life colorful. They allow us to express our personality, maximize our wardrobe, and have some fun. They also make great gifts, vacation purchases, and fodder for shopping sprees. As a result, most people tend to accumulate some accessory clutter.
Today’s challenge is to find 18 accessories to discard. This is a broad category, so remember to consider all of the following:
- Jewelry (including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings)
- Cuff Links
- Watches
- Scarves
- Hats
- Gloves
- Purses/Handbags
- Wallets
- Glasses/Sunglasses
- Visors
- Baseball Caps
- Perfume
- Hair Decorations
As you hunt through your belongings, give particular consideration to items that are broken, missing a mate, no longer to your taste, or no longer fit. Just because you liked it in the past doesn’t mean you have to keep it forever. If it isn’t something you love using today, let it go.
Gently used accessories make good donations. If items are broken, you can throw them away. You may also find some pieces that you would like to invest in repairing. Set these in a safe place and schedule a time to get them fixed.
Think you can find 18? Can you think of anything else to add to this list?

This by far is my favorite to deal with as I am truly an accessories girls from way back. So I admit that I may have more than my fair share and might have to indeed go through them now here 😉
Do you have a day “off” tomorrow? Might be a fun activity to dig through and share the extras with the girls:)
I have long dealt with my earrings! LOL. I have a “collection” but some of them are missing so I threw the ones that are missing a partner and those that I don’t use anymore. It feels good to reduce the clutter in my drawer. Whew!
Yes, I often collect a pile of “singleton” earrings. See those two in the photo? I let them go as well after writing this challenge. Time to make space for the items I wear!
I had to go through my scarves at the end of last year, everyone bought me one for the Christmas before. and I am not a great accessory person, so I kept my favourites and donated or gave some to friends.
Sometimes an item becomes the “it” gift in any given season. I like scarves, but I also don’t keep them all because they do take up a fair amount of space!
I love this challenge. I call this list of items “smalls”. People do not go through them often so it tends to pile up.
I like to go through the scarves and gloves at the end of the school year. Usually, by then, if a glove is missing its match, I either have found it or haven’t and I can get rid of it.
Looking forward the the rest of this challenge. =)
I wonder if they are rarely sorting exactly because they are “smalls”… not requiring a lot of obvious space. I agree that single gloves can go at the end of the season!! Thanks for supporting the challenge, Sabrina!
I find accessories hard to part with, because they don’t take up a lot of space, things that don’t match a current outfit may match one in the future, and they are often associated with memories. I’m not saying I never get rid of them, but I seem to regret it afterwards more often than I do with other items.
Interesting, Janet! You are right that they tend to be smaller, and take up less space. If they are varieties of pieces you regularly use, they might bear holding onto. But, if you have moved away from a category altogether (e.g. hair bands when you now have short hair..) then you are less likely to regret the decision to let go.
Oh my goodness, I could come up with 18 to toss just by going through my husband’s baseball cap collection, or my mismatched earring collection!
I think our husbands have similar baseball cap collections! He agreed to donate 3 last weekend and I practically danced a jig:)
