Digital Declutter Challenge #1: Background Image

The Digital Decluttter. The goal of the first challenge is to motivate yourself for the month ahead.

Welcome to the first day of the Get Organized! Digital Declutter Challenge. Since you may still be recovering from New Year’s Eve, today we will start with an easy task. The goal of the first challenge is to motivate yourself for the month ahead.

Find a new image – one that you really love and that inspires you- to be your background image. If you have multiple devices (e.g. phone, tablet, laptop, desktop), upload the image to all of them. You may have a lot of documents and icons that obscure the image right now, but don’t worry. We will be working on clearing all of that up this month.

If you don’t have a photo that you like, pull out your phone and take a few pictures that inspire you. Maybe the beautiful scene out your window, a photo of people you love, or a selfie as you strike a power pose. Alternatively, you can use one of the images below.

Think of this image as a promise to yourself to stick with the challenge and give yourself the gift of clarity for the new year.

Visuals can be very motivating. Which image did you select?

    1. What a wonderful idea! We look at our screens quite a bit each day, so having an image can be terrifically motivating. It doesn’t need to be a photo, just something you love to look at:)

    1. I hope it turns out to be helpful. We may not get through all aspects of digital life, but it occurred to me last summer that we have more and more clutter in this area of our lives. I hope you’ll follow along and keep giving me feedback!

  1. I cleared my holiday image on my phone yesterday and now I have my business background image on my screen. I really like it. On my desktop I have a waterfall image. It’s an image I took last year on vacation. I love changing out digital images after I go on vacation. =) Looking forward to this challenge.

    1. I need to do this task myself as I have a holiday background on my laptop. Looking forward to putting in a fresh, clean and inspiring image… which for me, is usually the beach!

  2. I love the idea of having a visual as motivation to get you started! I think too many times we have an “idea” but when things get hard that “idea” can’t really help us if we don’t have something concrete to look upon. Thanks for the motivation and I can’t wait to see the rest of your challenge!

    1. It is easy to lose our motivation when we run into roadblocks! Most people are visual communicators, and therefore images are surprisingly powerful. Changing those images periodically is important because we tend to get used to what we are looking at and sort of “block it out” over time. Thanks for following along this month and giving feedback – love that!

  3. I’ve been trying to sign up for your newsletter so I can follow along and I keep getting errors. Any other way I can subscribe?

    1. Hmmm… I’m not sure why you can’t sign up. I’m so sorry about that – I will be working on that! In the meantime, you can visit my blog every day (I’m posting each challenge the evening before), and you can also follow my Facebook page where I will be posting the challenge each morning. Thanks for the “heads up!”

    1. Nice to start positive and not too complicated. A power image motivates me. Plus, many of us have old background images, or have never put a personalized one on the computer, so hopefully this is very rewarding!

    1. I know you understand the power of an image, Tamara! The Northern Lights would be so inspiring. I saw them once when I was at a camp in upstate New York. I was so surprised that I didn’t even believe my own eyes!

    1. Some of us are more visual than others, but most people enjoy looking at an image they feel a connection to.I hope you give it a try, and I hope it provides a lot of inspiration and encouragement each time you look at it!
